The 3 Step Guide To Starting Your Own Reselling Business – Step 3

The last step….

This last step is the most rewarding of them all!  Now that you have tirelessly thrifted and researched the BEST items you could find, it’s time to sell them!   In this step, you will learn to create a clean and eye catching listing.  I will also discuss the best marketplaces to list certain items. Let’s begin!

Where should I sell?

Usually, our go to places are either eBay or Amazon, however you can also sell on Poshmark or Mercari.

If you are reselling secondhand (or new) clothing, I would recommend eBay or Poshmark.  Look up your item on both (or use our app) to determine where the most profit would lie.

For other items, you can choose eBay, Amazon, or Mercari.

How create a good listing?

Regardless of the platform, there is one thing that is the most important when setting up your listings….

The saying, “a picture tells a thousand words” holds very true here.  You want to make sure your pictures are:

  • Well-lit
  • On a clean or attractive background
  • Clean from any smudges or grime
  • Have no other items in the picture (unless it’s a lot of course)
  • If this is done correctly, your pictures can do most of the describing for you.Next, you want to create your description.  It does not have to be complicated at all, rather make sure that it is concise and to the point. Highlight all defects the item may have, such as small scratches or other cosmetic issues.  Specify if it’s working or not, whether you have tested it, and also reinforce the buyer to see pictures for more detail.  Let your photos do the work!

How do I price my item?

This part is slightly subjective, but this is how we do it:  be the lowest person.

If we see the lowest for an item listed for $50, we put ours for sale for $40-$45.  This ensures quick sales, and if your thrifting was on point, should be a great margin for you.  You don’t want to hold on to the item for to long, rather letting it go fast enables you to keep thrifting for new items while not cluttering your house!
