The 3 Step Guide To Starting Your Own Reselling Business – Step 1
We are very glad you are interested in starting your own reselling business with us! In this three steps, you will learn (in detail) how to start reselling online on places like eBay, Amazon, Poshmark, and Mercari. Let’s first start off with:
What is reselling?
Reselling, flipping, or whatever term you may hear, is the practice of buying one item (say, a shirt) from a place like a garage sale and reselling it online. Many people have built successful businesses off of reselling. It is often used to supplement already existing income, but you can go full time with it as well! You can do most of the work from home, after thrifting your reselling supply of course. Keep in mind, however, that this is not a get rich quick scheme – just a way to make a good, honest living from your home while also recycling secondhand items! This brings us into the second question:
Where do I thrift?
Thrifting at stores like Goodwill, thrift shops, garage/yard sales, and other secondhand shops can all provide a wide variety of items for you to resell online. Flea markets are also a great way to connect with other people and build connections, which can end up paying you back in the future!
What do I thrift? How do I pick the best items?
Now that you’re at Goodwill:
What do I buy?
How much should I pay?
What factors should I keep in mind when buying in item?
These questions are crucial in ensuring a successful thrifting session. Decide first:
Do you want to sell clothes?
Or something else? It helps to know a little about the category, so if you’re good with clothes, you can start with those!
Here is a list of must-do things you need to do before buying any item for online resale:
Check the item over for ANY cosmetic damage. If it has excessive dents, scratches, tears, or staining it is most likely not worth your time.
If it uses electricity, test it. I cannot stress how important it is to test the item before purchasing.
Research, research, research! If you plan on selling on eBay, look the item up on eBay. If you’re selling it on Mercari, look it up there. Get a feel for the price and determine if the item is worth it to buy.
Keep in mind the shipping costs. That heavy, $80 amplifier that you bought for $4 could cost $40 to ship.
